 English translation below

Summer holidays are coming this side of the world, and if you are thinking of doing a road trip through the European Union, this article is for you! I leave you all the info for a road trip through Europe.

🚗 Highways: The highways in Europe in general are very well prepared for traveling by car. In fact, during vacation time it is extremely common for many people to choose to travel by car or use their mobile homes / caravans to move between cities and countries.

⛽️ Service stations: There are many service stations (in general they are in perfect condition, clean and have all the services, even showers!). There are also many rest stops. They take great care that one always has the option to stop and rest. In fact, when you are arriving at a station, they already tell you when the next one is. They also have outdoor spaces to eat and I recommend you take your food as the options available are not usually very tasty or cheap!

🤚 In gral. All the highways that connect countries are double-handed, which makes traveling by car much safer.

🚽 Bathrooms: Sometimes the bathrooms are paid (1 EUR) but they return it to you without consuming anything at the station. Even in some countries by law they are free.

🔌 Electric cars: More and more these service stations have chargers for electric cars. It works with a charge card that is issued by the country in which you live or I calculate in the rental cars, they provide it to you.

💶 Tolls: Not all countries have tolls. For example, Luxembourg and Germany do not have. For others, like Switzerland, you have to buy and stick a wafer (vignette) on the windshield and it is controlled automatically in certain sectors of the motorways.

⭕️ Management rules: Be attentive to the changes in maximums between countries since there are no borders as such, they may not find out that they crossed the country and the maximums change between one and another!

⛽️ Gasoline: The price of gasoline also has a small variation between countries. Luxembourg is one of the countries with the cheapest gasoline (1.28 EUR and the Netherlands one of the most expensive (1.74 EUR)

🇪🇺 Schengen Zone: If you move within the Schengen Zone (free movement zone between 22 countries) there are no border controls. There are 4 countries that – although they are part of the EU – are not in this treaty and do have borders as such: Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus and Romania. At the same time Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland are not part of the EU but they are part of the Schengen Zone, therefore they also have a type of border

📂 Passport: Always carry your passport unless you have a DNI from an EU country, it is important that you carry it even if we do not cross border controls, it is the document with which we move.

🐕🐈 If you travel with dogs or cats, always carry your pet passport. Until now, in 4 years traveling, they never asked me for it but it is the valid document to move with them. Even if we have a veterinary emergency, having this document will allow the Veterinarian to have the information of the animal in question quickly in his hands.
