Cómo elegimos una transportadora para el avión? | How do we choose a carrier/kennel for the plane?

How do we choose a carrier for the airplane?

The most important thing to check is that the one we buy “complies with IATA standards”, and this is usually said on it’s label.

IATA (International Air Transport Association) is the trade association of all the world’s airlines, and is the one who establishes international measures and standards.

Some points to keep in mind:

Size: it is important that the size we buy (usually S, M, L) is the correct one for the size of our dog or cat. In other words, it must have enough space for our friend to stand and turn, sit and lie down in a natural and comfortable position.
Material: must be rigid plastic.
Ventilation: on all 3 sides and on the roof. Check the photos below for this.
Identification: it is very important that all our personal data and those of the animal appear, stuck outside the carrier in a clear and legible way (and can be added in English and the destination language).

If it respects IATA rules, points 2 and 3 are assured 😉

Just in case, I leave the IATA link with the official information provided:

Having the correct carrier is half the process, we have the other half -and the most important in my opinion- which is to habituate our dog or kitty to remain in it, comfortable, quiet, and feeling like a safe place to be. In another post I tell you more about this!
